Verizon Wireless is getting ready to provide the owners of a DROID Xyboard 8.2 tablet on its network with a brand new experience, courtesy of the Ice Cream Sandwich software update for the device.

The company has already provided specific info on the new OS via its support website, confirming that it will be released as version number 12.11.31.MZ609.

The update weighs 299.2MB and will bring along a nice range of enhancements, though it appears that Verizon actually forgot to deliver specifics on when it would be delivered.

Owners of this device might already be able to see the update available for them when performing manual checks, and it would be a good idea to verify whether the package has been already pushed to your tablet of not.

Here are some of the improvements included in the update

- The direct access lock screen takes you directly to Camera, Browser, Gallery or Unlock.

- Easily create folders by dropping one app on top of another. You can also add a name to specify the folder contents.

- Multitask with ease using the Recent Apps Feature. Just press and hold the Home Key to access and easily switch applications by tapping on thumbnails or swipe away apps that you are done with to close.

- Monitor your data usage all in one place. Set warning levels check individual app usage or turn off data completely.

- Important Note: The on-device Data Usage meter may not match the amount of data for which the customer will be charged by Verizon Wireless because the on-device meter may include data usage that is not billed to the customer.

- The My Verizon Mobile app reflects billable data usage and best indicator of how much of the current month’s data allowance has been used.

Additionally, the update will deliver the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich platform to DROID Xyboard 8.2 units, which will include the latest Motorola USB driver so that one can connect the tablet to a computer to transfer files.

A native email client to securely refresh Corporate Email accounts will also be provided, along with a better browsing experience and improved connectivity.

For more info, users should head over to Verizon’s support website.
