It appears that LG is really working on a superphone these days. We already reported yesterday on the upcoming LG Optimus G, though we only had a name and several specs.
There are numerous rumors claiming that the LG Optimus G will be launched on the market as Optimus LTE 2. The important thing is that the smartphone is real and will go on sale by the end of the year.
We expect the Optimus G/Optimus LTE 2 to be initially released in South Korea, and then slowly rolled out in other regions with LTE network service.
The superphone will be equipped with a quad-core processor, possibly clocked at 1.5 GHz, and 2GB of RAM. We also got confirmation that the CPU will be accompanied by Qualcomm’s Adreno 320 graphics processing unit.
We also know the Optimus G will be powered by Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system out of the box integrated with LG Optimus 3.0 UI.
To make things more interesting, Qualcomm came forward earlier today with a short statement confirming that its Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset is indeed powering LG’s superphone:
“Qualcomm will supply the latest Snapdragon S4 Pro platform to LG, enabling LG’s new quad-core smartphone, which is currently in production with anticipated commercial availability in Korea in September and global rollout to follow. This smartphone will be the newest commercial and global device to offer a quad core CPU Snapdragon S4 processor along with 3G/LTE multi-mode capabilities, delivering a superior mobile experience for voice, web browsing, games, user interfaces and other graphics applications.”
According to the latest hearsay, the smartphone will boast a 4.7-inch True HD capacitive touchscreen display, as well as an impressive 13-megapixel rear photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.
In the same piece of news, the Optimus G seems to be one and the same smartphone that leaked several months ago as LG Optimus Eclipse. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
