Motorola DROID M Headed to Verizon Wireless

Motorola Mobility is expected to replace the DROID RAZR in the United States with another high-end smartphone, the DROID M.

Although there are no details regarding the phone’s software, we suspect the Motorola DROID M will be launched with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system out of the box.

It this proves accurate, Motorola fans that will purchase the DROID M will have to wait for an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade that will eventually come in a few months.

Unfortunately, Motorola Mobility is not among the companies that were fast on delivering an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for their smartphones, on the contrary.

If DROID M were launched with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean onboard, then owners wouldn’t have to wait endlessly for an update, though we don’t think the smartphone will come with the latest version of Google’s mobile platform.

Anyway, the folks over at BGR claim they’ve been told by an anonymous source that the DROID M will be equipped with a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.5 GHz.

The smartphone will follow the same design line as the previous RAZR models and will feature the same premium materials, including the Kevlar fiber case.

There are no details on the size of the display, but rumor has it that it will support HD (1196 x 720 pixels) resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass coating for extra protection.

Motorola DROID M will be launched at Verizon Wireless and will available for purchase for $149.99 USD (120 EUR) with a new two-year agreement.

We’re not sure when exactly the phone goes on sale, but there’s a high chance the DROID M will be announced during a press conference to be held on September 5 in New York City. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
