Major carrier MegaFon and Intel has teamed up to offer Android enthusiasts living in Russia the first smartphone powered by an Intel Atom processor.
Dubbed MegaFon Mint, the handset is now available for purchase for 17,990 Rubles (565 USD or 450 EUR) off-contract.
According to the carrier, the Mint has just arrived at MegaFon’s retail stores, but it can also be purchased online.
“Russia's customers acknowledge MegaFon as a valued telco provider and a great national retailer for handsets, smartphones, tablets and other self-branded innovative hi-tech devices. We consider the MegaFon Mint a real technology breakthrough. It is a highly attractive device, and I'm sure end customers will value it,” said Mikhail Dubin, MegaFon vice president.
MegaFon Mint is equipped with an Intel Atom processor Z2460 clocked at 1.6 GHz, which features Intel Hyper-Threading Technology.
In addition, the smartphone comes with 400 MHz graphics clock and HSPA+ Intel XMM 6260 platform, which provides blazing fast data download speeds and a quick user experience.
The phone is powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and comes pre-loaded with a host of MegaFon apps and services.
It sports a 4.03-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen display, 1GB of RAM, as well as an impressive 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features autofocus and full HD (1080p) video recording.
MegaFon Mint’s battery should provide up to 5 hours of 3G browsing, 45 hours of audio playback or 8 hours of talk time on a single charge.
“Our engagement with MegaFon is a step forward in accelerating the adoption of Intel architecture across new mobile market segments and geographies. We look forward to our continued collaboration with MegaFon and to bringing consumers in Russia new device experiences enabled by Intel technology,” said Christopher McGuire, general manager of reference devices for Intel's Mobile and Communications Group.
